If you purchase or receive a flower arrangement, you need to know how to keep them and how to make them last for a long time. There are tips and tricks that can help you preserve your flowers. With fresh cut flowers, you will be able to keep them for a longer time.
You can always ask the florist about the freshness of the flowers. If you want to send a bouquet for somebody, you can ask whether the florist offers same day delivery so that it is easier for you to plan it out. The florist will also have some instructions on how to keep the flowers fresh. If you purchase fresh flowers, you need to cut the stems before you put them in water inside a vase. Generally, if you purchase from a florist, the stems of the flowers will already be cut and you will not need to do anything. You can always cut the stems after a few days have gone so that more fresh water can be received by the flower. You can do this after about three days. However, you can’t cut the stem straight. Cut it diagonally and make sure you are making the cut about an inch from the bottom of the stem. This way, the flowers can get more water and will stay fresh for longer. You also need to replace the water in the vase every few days.
If there are leaves at the base of the flower stem, you can always remove some of the additional leaves, especially if they are resting below the level of water. This way, you will be able to prevent the accumulation of bacteria within the water and keep the water clean and fresh. This way, the flowers will retain their colour and bloom for a long time as well. Sometimes, when there are leaves submerged in water, it can give rise to a bad odour as well. You also need to be very careful when you choose a vase for the flowers. If the mouth of the vase is too small, the stems of the flowers will be cramped. If it is too wide, you will not be able to create a nice shape for the flower arrangement. You can always look online for inspiration.
The type of flowers you purchase will also give you an idea of what kind of a vase you need. If your vase is quite short, don’t be afraid to clip the stems of the flowers to bring them into proportion with the vase. You can fill the vase with fresh cold water. If you have blooms, you can use warm water so that they will open. But cold water should be used when you are replacing the water. And water replacement should be done every couple of days. When you swap out the old water for fresh cold water, you will be able to enjoy the flowers for a long time. There is also plant food that you can get from the florist or the garden shop that you can mix into the water.
