Types of Pallet Rack Systems

There are a number of pallet racks currently offered, but they are all built for a wide range of requirements and facility styles. Some have large storage space while others have faster access to storage loads.
Pallet rack models are crucial for warehouses or other places that move, ship and store goods on pallets. This helps these facilities to optimize vertical room and store multi-story high crates. Pallet rack also helps to keep the stock organized and readily accessible. There are several various pallet rack systems and each has an ideal case usage and inventory control process the most famous systems we’re going to cover are:
- Selective
- Pallet Flow
- Cantilever
- Push Back
Selective Racking
Selective racking is the most common and flexible device in the industry and is possibly what most people would have expected when they hear “pallet rack systems.” It’s metal shelving built to match pallets. These solutions are quick and make it easy to rack and remove pallets with a forklift.
These racks can also be mounted directly behind each other to become a “double deep” rack that can expand capacity by up to 40%, but even so this type of rack has the least storage volume
Pallet Flow
These racks work to push back pallet racking. This rack design, however, works with rollers and gravity. Instead of filling these racks from the front like all of the other solutions listed here, you’re loading them from the back. Designed at a moderate angle the product put on the back of these racks slides forward until it hits the front of the shelf. This is the perfect option for a fist in/first out of product setup
Cantilever Racking
Cantilever racking is simple and is mainly intended for oversized or long items, such as wood or pipes. That’s because, instead of being a simple shelf or a railed road, it’s just a foundation that supports layers of arms that stand out. This base may be stand-alone with arms on either side or connected to the support wall.
These arms are identical to the forks you can see on the forklift and only keep up what you place across them. There really is no other shelving or protecting material, just a wall or base with the weapons that stick out. While most often used without pallets, cantilever stands are used to accommodate long custom pallets and can be adapted to carry standard size pallets.
Push Back Racking
This rack system is almost similar to the drive-in, only that it is designed to force forward pallets. For the drive-in system, the pallets will remain at the back of the rack. In the push-back method, the pallets positioned at the back of the rack will be forced forward to the front while the pallets in the front are withdrawn.
When filling a push-back rack, all pallets can be placed in the front without putting palletised packages in the back, as is the situation with some other rack systems. This loading / unloading method is similar to how many drink coolers in grocery stores operate, as you take more drinks out of the machine, they drive them along.
